Titus County Jr. Commercial Heifer Pen of Two Show

Tag in: March 25th 10am to 12 noon Titus County Vet  

Arrival & Check in Times: 8am to 10 am Sunday September 24th  

Release Time: Sunday, September 24th following the completion of scoring and tabulation.

The entries and the awards in this department are subject to General Rules and Regulations, unless otherwise specified.

Validation and Registration

1. All heifers will be ear tagged for identification during validation at tag in March.

2. Heifers will be checked at March tag-in for any obvious physical defects. After an explanation of the physical defect, the exhibitor can then elect to bring another heifer for late tag-in the next day.  Sifted heifer exhibitors will not be charged to late tag in. If an exhibitor misses the original weigh-in date, they will have until Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. to contact Show Superintendent for late weigh-in, with an additional $25 fee.

3. Exhibitors must declare at time of tag in intention to show cattle in bred or open division. Cattle who are declared at tag in to show as breds that check open at show check in will receive a 2.5 point deduction per head.

4. Cattle will be ultra-sounded at tag in to ensure heifers are open at time of tag in.

5. Heifers 24 months of age before October 1st of the show year will be ineligible to show in the

Commercial Heifer Show. Cattle will be mouthed at contest check in.

6. The Commercial Heifer committee will issue updates as necessary; however, it is the

exhibitors’ responsibility to comply with the Texas Animal Health Commission rules.

7. Commercial Heifers may be validated and entered in the show as an individual exhibit or as a

Family Exhibit. If entered as a Family Exhibit, all eligible animals must be listed per exhibitor.

Exhibitors must declare which heifer or heifers they will show at the time of the show check-in (September 24th).

8. Entries must be completed with ALL requested information and signatures.

Entries must be completed with declared division (open or bred) and date of birth of the heifer. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!

9. If prior to September 1st of current year, one or more of the heifers in the pen of two become

unable to be shown, the exhibitor must contact and notify the committee chairman immediately

and the remaining heifer or heifers may be shown as a single entry. Single entry pens (1 head) will receive a 10 point deduction.

10. Any heifer losing an ear tag needs to notify the superintendent immediately for retag.

All heifers must have a valid tag by the end of check in on Sunday, September 24th.

11. Any heifer calving prior to show time will be ineligible to show in the Commercial Heifer

Show.

12. EACH EXHIBITOR WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER ONE (1) PEN OF TWO. Pens of

two will be sifted upon arrival Sunday, September 24th. Heifers will be sifted by the

Commercial Heifer Committee based on ultrasound. COMMITTEES DECISION WILL BE FINAL.

13. Any animal that exhibits signs of being unethically altered or fit will be disqualified.

14. ANIMALS ARE TO BE SHOWN IN THEIR NATURAL CONFORMATION AND COLOR. NO ANIMAL MAY BE SHOWN THAT HAS HAD ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS GLUED TO OR OTHERWISE ATTACHED IN A MANNER AS TO ALTER ITS CONFORMATION OR CHANGE ITS APPEARANCE. THIS INCLUDES FALSE HAIR, ARTIFICIAL COLOR, OIL, AND/OR ADHESIVES. ANIMALS UNETHICALLY FITTED IN HAVING MODIFICATION OF DEWLAP OR SHEATH; INJECTION OF OIL, AIR, AND OR ANY OTHER FOREIGN SUBSTANCE THAT ALTERS THE PHYSICAL APPERANCE OR CONFORMATION TO ANY PART OF THE BODY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. THIS DOES NOT INLCUDE DEHORNING.

15. The Commercial Heifer Committee reserves the right to expel unruly animals.

Points will be awarded in the following categories

Test – 25 points

Interview -25 points

Cattle grade – 25 points

Record Book -25 points

 

The exhibitor receiving the most points will be declared Grand Champion. The exhibitor receiving the next most points will be Reserve Champion. Points total will determine the next 5 pens. In the event of a tie the test score will serve as the tie breaker.

16. High Point Induvial awards will be given for the following 3 divisions

                                 Junior Division - 3rd grade to 5th grade 
                               Intermediate Division - 6th grade to 8th grade
                                Senior Division - 9th grade to 12th grade

 

17. Grand and Reserve Grand Pen plus the next 5 will sell at the premium auction Saturday September 30th. A maximum of one Pen of Two per exhibitor will be allowed to sell in the premium auction.
